Common Questions
What's the difference between USDOT and MC numbers?
A USDOT number is a unique identifier for your company used by FMCSA to track safety information. An MC number is your operating authority that allows you to operate as a for-hire carrier. You need a USDOT to get MC authority.
How long does it take to get MC authority?
After we submit your application, there's an 18-21 day waiting period required by FMCSA. Once you file your insurance, your authority becomes active. USDOT numbers are typically issued the same day.
Do I need MC authority if I only haul my own goods?
No. If you're a private carrier only transporting your own goods (not for compensation), you typically only need a USDOT number. MC authority is required for for-hire carriers.
